Rooms for Hire

The Borrowdale Institute is made up of three areas; ​

  • The Main Hall

  • The Community Room (this houses the main kitchen/bar)

  • The Herdwick Suite (complete with a kitchenette)

Each room can be hired separately (depending on event size), or the hall can be hired as a whole.

The Main Hall

The largest of the rooms within The Institute - ideal for larger celebrations. 

  • The largest of the rooms 

  • Capacity of 102 seated for dining, or 110 seated in an auditorium style 

  • Capacity of 204, standing/dancing 

  • Solid wood flooring 

  • Exposed beams

  • Muted colour scheme

  • An optional extra of an 'Indoor Marquee' which can drastically change the 'feel' of the room

  • Sound system & hearing loop

  • Platform stage can be provided on request

  • Chairs can be provided

  • 6 x Smaller Trestle Tables (61cm x 182cm)

  • Kitchen & bar are in the Community Room, which can be hired alongside the Main Hall (see below)

Community Room

Houses the main kitchen/bar. Can be hired alone, or alongside the Main Hall.

Herdwick Suite


Upper floor room, in honour of Herdwick sheep & our farmers. Ideal for meetings and smaller gatherings. 

  • Self-contained room on the upper floor (accessible by lift and stairs)

  • Capacity of 34 seated, 60 standing

  • Conference chairs with removable writing tables

  • Small kitchen (complete with fridge, sink, coffee machine, crockery and cutlery)

  • Ideal for smaller gatherings, meetings, receptions 

  • Large 65" TV screen 

  • Balcony with views towards Castle Crag and the valley beyond 

Other Facilities

  • We have a car park for 10 cars which can be chained off on request 

The biggest selling point is, of course, the location!
