The Borrowdale Institute is a community centre in Rosthwaite, in the centre of the Borrowdale Valley.
Established over 100 years ago, it has served as the only community hub for farmers and families since its inception. It has been lovingly maintained by local trustees for decades.
The Institute is on a mission to renovate the building and strengthen its role as a cornerstone in the local community.
The need for connection and community is primal, as fundamental as the need for air, water, and food.
To restore the institute's role as a cornerstone of the local community, and to make it a venue-of-choice for locals and visitors alike.
from the Institute's charter:
"The object of the charity shall be the provision and maintenance of a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of the parish of Borrowdale without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for meetings, lectures and classes, and for other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants."
